The New York based Raymond Scott Orchestrette, who appear in the film, are doing a FREE concert at Lincoln Center on Thursday night, December 1st at 8:30! This is the first performance by the 7-piece Orchestrette in quite awhile, and features the original line-up. The Orchestrette perform modernistic versions of my dad’s best-known works, many of which are well-known from Warner Bros. cartoons. The RSO repertoire also includes lesser-known, non-cartoon works like “Coming Down to Earth” and “Sleepwalker,” and acoustic renditions of his later electronica, such as Soothing Sounds for Baby‘s “Little Miss Echo.”   They will be playing their adventurous arrangements at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium on December 1 as part of Target Free Thursdays.  I’m attending-hope to see you there!

Israel Screening — Jewish Eye Film Festival

11 11 2011

Exciting News — the film is being screened in Israel at the Jewish Eye World Jewish Film Festival in Ashkelon.  The date of the screening is Tuesday, November 15th — here’s a link.  This is the eigth year of the festival which focuses on the Jewish culture and identity.  It includes films from all over the world — features, documentaries, and short films.  Worldwide, there are about one hundred festivals of Jewish films, annually, and “Jewish Eye” is rapidly gaining a high profile on this festival circuit.

Aharon Yadlin, Festival Chairman and winner of the Israel Prize 2010 said: ”The strength of Israel is not only its security and does not just summarize in its scientific and technological advancement. It is also expressed in the cultural life, in art creations.  Jewish Eye Film Festival is a cultural experience of vast erudition.”

Thanks to Gady Castel and everyone at the festival for inviting the film and me as well.  Wish I could be there but unfortunately it’s not possible at the moment.  But I hope that any of you in Israel who read this attend….

Best Documentary, Atlantic City Cinefest!

18 10 2011

Greetings from Atlantic City — OK, not literally as I’m back home, but I was in fact there this past weekend of October 14-16 for the 4th annual Atlantic City Cinefest, presented by the Downbeach Film Festival.  Not your normal type of film festival location, but that made it all the more fun and definitely unique.  The fest is run a by a dedicated group of film lovers headed by William Sokolic and they work very hard to create a festival that feels at once real and fantastical, given the Las Vegas inspired nature of modern Atlantic City (and there’s still a beautiful beach, boardwalk, ocean, and salt water taffy).  But I’m delighted to report that the highlight of the weekend for me was that “Deconstructing Dad” won the Best Documentary award!  A real thrill and thanks to Bill Sokolic, Joelle SokolicNed Eckhardt, and everyone on the festival staff  for the award and a great time in Atlantic City.  And thanks as well to George Stewart  who originally suggested that I submit my film to the festival….

Ghent (Gent) Film Festival in Belgium…

17 10 2011

Delighted to report that the film will be screened Thursday, October 20th at 2:30pm (14:30), Friday night, October 21st at 10:30pm (22:30), and Saturday night at 8pm (20:00), as part of the 38th annual Gent International Film Festival in Belgium, at the Arts Centre Vooruit.

VARIETY placed the festival in its ‘Top-50 must attend festivals of the world,” and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL has called the festival “one of the five European Film Festivals with character.”   Established in 1974, the festival has developed into one of Europe’s most prominent film festivals, attracting over 130,000 viewers each year.

Ghent is a beautiful city, as I know from visiting about 10 years ago, and I had really hoped to attend the festival, especially as it has a particular emphasis on film music and music films, but it just isn’t possible this time around.
But hope you can!
